SCOOP: Shahid Kapoor turns producer; debut project with Netflix's war trilogy based on Amish Tripathi's book?

Shahid Kapoor is one busy man. After Jersey and Raj and DK's next, Shahid was supposed to work on Shashank Khaitan's Yoddha but he walked out of the film at the last minute. He was also in talks for several other films, including the Hindi remake of Surarai Pottru, a Ram Madhvani film and the big budgeted Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra directorial Karna. Now, we can tell you that although he's making his digital debut on Amazon Prime Video, he has inked a huge deal with Netflix as well.

A source informed Bollywood Hungama, "Shahid has been paid to the tune of over Rs. 70-80 crore for a trilogy that he's going to star in. It's a period mythological war saga that will be adapted from Amish Tripathi's novel. Not just that, this will also mark Shahid's foray into production."

He had been waiting to set up his own production house for some time. "Shahid was almost kick-starting his own banner with the Dingko Singh biopic but it fell apart. Now, Netflix and he have signed a mutual agreement on this project. It will most likely feature him and is going to be an ambitious period venture designed on the lines of a Baahubali but only for the web. This will also be another mythological project for him after Karna."

Aditya Narayan opens up about his return to Indian Idol after Coronavirus

Aditya, you back shooting for Indian Idol?
Yes, we are in Daman shooting for Idol as Maharashtra has halted shoot completely and it’s the need of the hour, given the number of cases.

So how does it feel?
Feels great! Haven’t been absent for so long from a show that I’ve been a part of. It’s been almost a month, Happy to be back with the team. We are in a bio-bubble here and all the safety measures are being taken by the channel.

How do you feel to be back?
Feels a bit strange, honestly. Everything is much more cosy and intimate as we don’t have the resources or time to put up a set as grand as the one in Film City. But the show must go on. The entire nation is at home and I feel like it’s a responsibility to make them forget their worries for 90 mins when they tune into our show. That’s the only reason we’re shooting through the pandemic. Especially given how much they love the show, and this season in particular has received a lot of love

What is your advice to those who have been infected by the Covid virus like you?
Stay home! Just because we have antibodies in our system doesn’t make us superhuman. The coronavirus keeps mutating and new strains are being discovered repeatedly. Hydrate a lot as we are battling summers now as well. Try and get at least 30-35 mins of mild exercise a day. Gradual Cardiovascular exercise has helped in strengthening my lungs post Covid. But go VERY SLOW. 10-15 mins of meditation a day will also go a long way for mental health.

How did they welcome you back on Indian Idol?
Honestly it was just back to business as usual. I neither demanded nor expected anything out of the ordinary upon my return. I think the best way to set things off is to just continue doing what I was doing.

Where is your wife? Has she fully recovered?
Wife is in Mumbai (smiles). Yes, she has recovered, touch wood. She took longer to recover. Also she eats like a rabbit so I’m encouraging her to eat well at least till she is completely back to normal.

Who is looking after her in your absence?
She is strong enough to take care of herself. And of course it helps that her parents my parents’ place is within a kilometre of each other. Mom and my wife Shweta are constantly in touch.

Irrfan Khan's first death anniversary: Wife Sutapa Sikdar reveals that Birdman and The Revenant director wanted to work with him

Time flies and how. Today is the first death anniversary of Irrfan Khan. It’s difficult to imagine that it’s been a year since the much loved and globally acclaimed actor is no longer with us. He was a rare actor whom nobody disliked. Everyone looked forward to watching him on screen. As a result, the pain felt by cinegoers across the world was quite deep when news came in on April 29, 2020 that he had left us. And it’s not surprising that days before his first death anniversary, people began to post tributes about him and thereby show how much they miss him. Irrfan’s family, wife Sutapa Sikdar and son Babil, too, have been giving interviews and are revealing a lot of trivia about him, which had never come out before.

And one such trivia revealed by Sutapa is surely worth knowing. Irrfan Khan had admitted in few of his interviews that Alejandro González Iñárritu, the director of films like Babel (2006), Birdman (2014) and The Revenant (2015) was his favourite and that he would love to do a film with him. In a recent interview, Sutapa Sikdar confessed that after he passed away, she came to know that the Oscar winning filmmaker had expressed his desire to work with Irrfan and was even ready to cast him in his next film! It was Mira Nair (who had worked with Irrfan Khan in 2017 drama, The Namesake) who told Sutapa about this development. For unknown reasons, Mira Nair never told Irrfan about it, probably as he was ailing at that time and was not in a position to take up any film. Sutapa Sikdar, at this, admits that it’s a bit regretful that Irrfan Khan went away without knowing that his most favourite director wanted to work with him.

Interestingly, just 1 ½ months before Irrfan Khan died, his last film, Angrezi Medium, released in cinemas. It also co-starred Deepak Dobriyal, Radhika Madan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Dimple Kapadia and unfortunately, it released when the Coronavirus cases had begun to multiply. It hardly ran in cinemas for 4 days after which theatres shut down across the country.

Star Vs Food: Arjun Kapoor is 'reluctant chef' while cooking Chapli Kebab and Laal maas; Sanjay Kapoor reveals Anil Kapoor is a food stealer

Ever wondered what it would be like to see your favourite celebrities on a cooking show. Well, Discovery+ kicked off the Star Vs Food earlier this month with the beautiful Kareena Kapoor Khan. The new celebrity cooking show features weekly episodes of stars setting themselves up against the challenge of cooking a meal for their loved ones under the supervision of a professional chef. After Kareena, Karan Johar joined the show and he went through a lot when it came to cooking. Now, joining the star-studded lineup is Arjun Kapoor who visited The Butler and the Bayleaf restaurant in Mumbai where Chef Gulaam Gouse Deewani taught Arjun how to make Chapli Kebab and Lal Maas from scratch.

KAPOOR CLAN – FOODIE CLAN

“The Kapoor tradition is that there should always be more food than people,” says Arjun Kapoor explaining his foodie Kapoor family to the Chef so they can cook the cuisine accordingly. As they discuss two dishes to make, Arjun, who has never even made a toast, confesses, “I don’t even understand anything you are saying.”

ARJUN KAPOOR – THE RELUCTANT CHEF

“I did basics for a film I did, Ki and Ka and to be honest, I was as reluctant then as I am now,” says Arjun as he chops onions and tomatoes. While Chef was impressed that the actor was actually doing well, Arjun quipped that the chopping might even take 3-4 months. As he called himself “reluctant”, you could witness it when he wasn’t keen on folding the beef with his hands.

ARJUN’S RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD & PARENT’S DIVORCE

Arjun, further, reveals how food subconsciously became a huge part of his life after his parent’s divorce. “When my parents split up, I looked at food for comfort. I caught up in the way and I started eating and enjoyed it. At the time, fast food culture came to India.” The actor admitted it was difficult to let go of it and how it ended up harming him – he developed asthma, injuries and had reached 150 kgs by the time he was 16. “It reached a point where I developed asthma, I developed injuries because of it and I reached 150 kgs by the time I was 16 years old,” Arjun recalled.

STAR VS FOOD’S STARS – SANJAY KAPOOR AND MAHEEP KAPOOR

Interestingly, the episode airs on the day Maheep Kapoor is celebrating her birthday, April 29. Arjun Kapoor’s youngest uncle Sanjay Kapoor and aunt Maheep – who he addresses by their names – are the special guests on the episode who couldn’t believe Arjun cooked a meal.

ANIL KAPOOR – THE FOOD STEALER

Now, we know the reason behind Anil Kapoor’s evergreen avatar and fitness. During the conversation, Sanjay Kapoor revealed how Anil basically doesn’t take food in his plate but steals from others plates. The episode ends with the trio discussing their families, food culture and how Arjun’s maid would hide food in order to give it to him, while he was growing up in the joint family.

All in all, Star Vs Food featuring Arjun Kapoor was a decent watch but the highlight of the episode was definitely his camaraderie with his uncle and aunt – Sanjay and Maheep.

“Pandemic has made us all step forward and help as many people as possible”, says Arjun Kapoor

Arjun Kapoor and his sister Anshula Kapoor’s online celebrity fundraising platform, Fankind, has been silently working all through the pandemic to help as many people as possible across India. The brother-sister duo raised over Rs. 1 crore and has helped over 30,000 people and their families in need.

Arjun reveals, “The pandemic has made us stare at an abyss of suffering. It has made us all step forward and help as many people as possible in our own, unique way. Anshula and I have tried to contribute through Fankind. I’m happy that we have helped about 30,000 people pan India and raised 1 crore to help aid those in crisis.”

The actor adds, “From monthly ration kits to hot meals, to cash in hand for migrant workers, to providing hygiene kits for COVID-19 prevention, the initiative has managed to touch the lives of many and hopefully has helped them in a small way to fight the virus and it’s far-reaching devastating impact.”

Arjun says he is really happy to have lent a helping hand during this crisis. He says, “I had invested my life’s savings for this venture and it makes me proud that the platform has supported those in serious need in these desperate and trying times.”
