After Runway 34, BIRTHDAY boy Ajay Devgn to begin work on his next directorial; expected to be the COSTLIEST film of Bollywood

One of the biggest stars of Bollywood, Ajay Devgn, turns 53 today. Currently, he’s being hailed as the lucky charm. After all, since November 2021, he has appeared in three films in cameos – Sooryavanshi, Gangubai Kathiawadi and RRR, and all three films were huge hits. And expectations are high from Runway 34, his directorial venture which also features him in a leading role. It also stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh and is set to release on Eid.

Last year, there were reports that Ajay Devgn plans to make a big-budget entertainer after the release of Runway 34. Bollywood Hungama has found out that the plan is very much. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The pre-visualisation work has already begun, even while Ajay Devgn is giving finishing touches to Runway 34. Once the aerial thriller is out, he’ll give more prominence to this venture.”

Usually, Ajay Devgn takes a gap between his directorial projects. His debut directorial, U Me Aur Hum released in 2008 followed by Shivaay, 8 years later, in 2016. There has been a six-year gap between the releases of Shivaay and Runway 34. This is the first time in his career that he’ll be directing almost back-to-back.

Shedding more light on this film, the source revealed, “It’s going to be very high on VFX. The budget is expected to be around Rs. 400 crore and hence, it’ll be the costliest film to come out of Bollywood. Ajay Devgn and his team have fiercely been secretive about the plot and genre, but there are murmurs that it has a mythological touch.”

The source continued, “The pre-production work will go on for more than a year. Ajay Devgn plans to go on floors only in the second half of 2023. Meanwhile, he’ll complete all his pending acting projects like Bholaa, Drishyam 2, Singham 3 etc.”

After Runway 34, Ajay Devgn’s next release would be the sports biopic Maidaan. This will be followed by the social comedy Thank God, which in all probability, will be the superstar’s last film this year.

A trade expert stated, “Ajay Devgn is riding high currently and is at the best phase of his career. With the box office expected to get bigger after the pandemic, his Rs. 400 crore dream project can emerge as a huge hit, if content clicks. Moreover, it sounds like a film fit for the big screen and such films are being patronized the most in cinemas by moviegoers in the post-Covid era.”

EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Deol talks about working on projects produced by Shah Rukh Khan- “He is very passionate about his work”

Bobby Deol was last seen in the film Love Hostel alongside Vikrant Massey and Sanya Malhotra. The film was released on February 22 on ZEE5. Playing the role of Viraj Singh Dagar, the raw look of a hitman and his menacing performance was very much loved by the viewers throughout the movie. Many celebs including Rajkummar Rao had commented, “Khatarnak performance sir”.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Bobby Deol praised Shah Rukh Khan and his skills as a producer. When asked “How does it help when you have a producer like Shah Rukh Khan?”, he replied, “I think a producer is creative, passionate, wants to make good cinema.But if it doesn’t work nothing does, that’s how it is. You can work with the biggest producers. I have worked with the biggest producers and directors, but the films haven’t worked.”

He further added, “I think he’s very passionate, he’s an amazing actor. He’s so passionate about his work that’s why he started his production house and I think I am so thankful for Red Chillies because they gave me Class of 83, and that was the beginning of my OTT journey.”

Bobby Deol will be next seen in an Abbas-Mastaan film alongside Arjun Rampal, called Penthouse. It will be released on Netflix.

Rashmika Mandanna replaces Parineeti Chopra; joins the cast of Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal

On the auspicious occasion of Ugadi & Gudi Padwa, the Animal team has announced that actress Rashmika Mandanna will join its stellar cast. Rashmika joins the team following the exit of Parineeti Chopra. The magnum opus directorial of Sandeep Reddy Vanga, with an all-star ensemble cast of Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol in key roles will now see the national crush Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead.

The crime drama has already stirred much anticipation amongst the audiences even before going to the floors due to a subtle yet powerful title teaser released earlier and the names associated with it. The movie will commence its shoot this summer with an anticipated release date of 11th August 2023.

Zoya Akhtar's Archie comics adaptation starring Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor and Agastya Nanda to kick off 40-day schedule in Ooty

Back in August 2021, it was rumoured that Zoya Akhtar is planning to launch Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, and Agastya Nanda in the industry with Archie comics Indian adaptation. The news was confirmed in November 2021 by Netflix but only the adaptation part and not about the cast. Netflix, in collaboration with Archie comics, will bring a coming-of-age story that will introduce the teenagers of Riverdale to a new generation in India. It is a live-action musical set in 1960s India, the film will be directed by Zoya Akhtar.

The shoot for the same began in Mumbai earlier in March 2022. Khushi Kapoor, who plays Betty Cooper, was seen in a plaid sweater vest over a shirt and a mini skirt donning brunette hair with bangs whereas Suhana Khan, who will essay Veronica Lodge, was dressed in casuals. Agastya Nanda aka Archie Andrews, was donning a t-shirt with pants and with brown-reddish hair. Now, the shoot will move to Ooty. According to a publication, the principal cast and core members of the team kicked off the schedule in Ooty last week. It will be a 40-day schedule after which an extensive schedule will begin in Mumbai in June.

Earlier, talking about this collaboration, director Zoya Akhtar said, “I am super excited to have the chance to bring The Archies to life. It was a large part of my childhood and teenage years. The characters are iconic and globally loved, which is also why I am a little nervous. I have to make sure the film stokes the nostalgia of a generation that grew up on the comic and yet resonates with the young adults today.”

The Archies, a feature film adaptation of the comics will be produced by Tiger Baby (Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti) and Graphic India (Sharad Devarajan) and will premiere exclusively on Netflix.

SEVENTEEN to release first-ever English single on April 15

South Korean superstars SEVENTEEN will kick off their grand return with the band’s first-ever English-language single set for release on April 15 (9 PM PT on April 14). Announced on SEVENTEEN’s official social media channels and the global fandom platform Weverse, the new single will act as a pre-release to the K-pop superstars’ 4th full-length album set to arrive in May.

The 13-member act’s first English-language single, the song is expected to serve as a prelude to SEVENTEEN’s heartfelt stories for their fans—CARATs—around the world. It will also be a starting point for ‘TEAM SEVENTEEN,’ a new project the band recently unveiled through a teaser video that hints at an exciting year to come for SEVENTEEN and CARAT as a united team.

As anticipation heightens for their return, the K-pop supergroup recently reaffirmed their presence in the global music scene by making their first appearance in the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI)’s 2021 Global Artist Chart as the 9th best-performing act of the year. SEVENTEEN was also the highest-ranked K-pop artist on IFPI’s Global Album Sales Chart, with their 9th EP Attacca at #3 of the top albums globally in 2021.

“Sharmaji Namkeen is Rishiji’s film. I am just there to complete his dream,” says late actor Rishi Kapoor’s co-star Paresh Rawal

Paresh Rawal is indisputably one of our finest actors. Of late, we have been seeing less of him on screen. That is because Paresh is being extra-selective. He has made one exception though; Paresh will be seen in Amazon’s Sharmaji Namkeen completing the scenes Rishi Kapoor left undone. It is an unprecedented experiment. Paresh tells Subhash K Jha why he is confident it will work.

Pareshji, how and why did you agree to fill in for Rishi Kapoor?
It was a very strange kind of relay race. I had to take up the character from he left it off. It was a very emotional moment for me. I cannot look at the experience in practical terms. It is the last film by one of my favourite co-stars. And what a film it is for any actor! And for an actor to depart without completing it….baap re baap! It’s a nightmare.

What made you agree to do the film?
Firstly, it was to ensure that Chintuji’s last film was somehow completed. Also, I felt truly concerned for the producers. They were stuck in an awful situation when I decided to step in. They wanted to complete the film, and as an actor, I did not want to hesitate.

The fact that something like this, with two actors playing the same role in one film, has not been done before, did that weigh on your mind?
I wasn’t even thinking along those lines. I was very confident about the producer’s intention. I knew he was not only going to complete the film but he was also going to make sure that it was released. This meant he had a lot of expenses to bear, and I was willing to take the risk for his sake. It was my duty as an actor to support him.

Did you know Rishi Kapoor well?
Oh, yes. I was in his only directorial venture Aa Ab Laut Chalen. We worked together on some films like Damini and another one directed by Kalpatru (Rishta Ho Toh Aisa) and Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi. Rishiji was the finest human being I have come across. I wanted to make sure that I completed his film without vandalizing or any disrupting his presence. I mean Sharmaji Namkeen is Rishiji’s film. I am just there to complete his dream.

But to synchronize his personality and acting style with yours?
It was a challenge for sure. But I didn’t try to synchronize my acting with his. That would have been mimicry. By doing so I didn’t want to reduce the importance of Rishiji’s performance. I have gone with the tensions of the character and have not tried to imitate Rishi. Even if I tried I could not have done it. There is a ‘Punjabiyat’ about Rishiji that would be impossible for me to imbibe. That ‘Punjabiyat’ runs in every Punjabi’s blood and in their skin tone. It would have looked very unbecoming for me to try to capture his personality.

Are you confident that the audience will accept this experiment?
I will tell you one thing, Subhashji. The script is so strong that the audience will not even notice that two different actors are playing Sharmaji. Kahaani mein itna dum hai. No one will bother. I know it will require the highest degree of suspension of disbelief from the audience, which I am sure they are willing to extend.
