R Madhavan speaks up on lack of commitment from actors; Akshay Kumar reacts

R Madhavan, who was seen promoting Rocketry – The Nambi Effect that released yesterday, has been speaking about a wide range of topics. While he earlier revealed about his opinion about his Bollywood debut Rehnaa Hai Tere Dil Mein (RHTDM) remake, he also mentioned that he wouldn’t like to play Manu from Tanu Weds Manu anymore. After all that, in yet another set of reports, when the actor made a statement about some actors not giving ample time for their projects, it was fueled up to be a dig on Akshay Kumar, who was last seen in Samrat Prithviraj.

A video of R Madhavan comparing actors who complete their films in 40-45 days to actors who dedicate a year or more for a project went viral on social media. In the said video, the Rocketry actor was seen saying, “Jaise ke Pushpa mein Allu Arjun ne woh character ko throughout maintain kiya hai. Woh kamaal ke dikhte hai aur dance bhi karte hain. Lekin uss film unhone uss character ko maintain karte hue unhone romance bhi kiya aur dance bhi. Toh mujhe lagta hai ki aisa ek actor ka commitment hota hai jahan pe filmein 3-4 mahine mein nahi banti par saalon lag jaata hai.” (For example, In Pushpa, Allu Arjun has managed to maintain his character throughout. Because we all know, he looks great and he is a good dancer too. But in this film, he has maintained his look so well that he has romanced and danced with that avatar. So it is basically the commitment of the actor where he doesn’t give dates for 3-4 months but dedicates a year or more towards the project).

Questioning about the same, Akshay Kumar was asked about R Madhavan’s comment during the song launch of Tere Saath Hoon Main from his forthcoming film Raksha Bandhan. The actor replied to it adding, “Meri filmein khatam ho jaati hai, main kya karun. Ab ek director aata hai aur kehta hai aapka kaam khatam. Toh ab kya main usse ladun?” (My films get over. When a director comes and says that your work here is done, what should I do? Shall I fight with him?)

Director of the film, Aanand L. Rai too added, “Inhone toh bol bol ke aisa kar diya hai ki main 40-45 din mein filmein complete kar deta hoon. Par, inka hisaab gadbad hai. Inhone logon ko gumraah kiya hua hai yeh bol bolke. 40-45 din kaunse waale, jahan yeh subah aate hain and shaam ko jab tak kaam na ho tab tak rehte hain? Inko pata nahi hai ki log inko bolke leke jaate hain 40-45 din par hote hain inke 80-90 din humare paas, agar aap time ke hisaab se calculate karein toh.” (It is because he kept saying he takes 40-45 days to complete a film and that has now become synonymous with him. But let me tell you that this is wrong information. Actually, by saying this, he has leading people astray with this statement because which 40-45 days are we talking about. The one where he starts at 6am and continues till our work is also done? I guess it is people who keep telling him that they have only 40-45 days of work. Because honestly, if you calculate as per time, he gave us about 80-90 days).

“Yeh humare saath aake ludo khel sakte hain itna time hota hai inke paas,” (He has time to play Ludo with us), he concluded.

Manoj Bajpayee recalls his first time going to a nightclub; claims Shah Rukh Khan was the one who introduced him to nightlife

Manoj Bajpayee was recently in Ranchi shooting for his currently underproduction venture Joram. Though the actor who will also soon be commencing The Family Man season 3 has his hands full, recently in an interaction he opened up about his acting school days. Sharing a memory from the past, while also reminiscing about the days gone by, Bajpayee opened up about his first visit to a nightclub. Interestingly, Manoj credits none other than Shah Rukh Khan for introducing him to nightlife.

Talking about the incident in an interview with Galatta Plus, Manoj says, “Shah Rukh was with Barry, I was with Barry, at the same time. So many friends who were there that night, I am still in touch with them, still very good friends. Shah Rukh’s life has become different from ours. I still remember looking for shoes to get into the discotheque, because I was in chappals.” Further talking about the club itself, Manoj Bajpayee states that it was a rather ‘dark and dingy’ place, “It was in Delhi, Maurya. Ghungroo was the name of the discotheque if I remember correctly. Yes, Shah Rukh Khan, Benny, and Rama, these were the people who took me. That was the first time I experienced a discotheque.”

Not surprisingly, this isn’t the first time Manoj has shared memories from the past. Earlier the actor had revealed that Shah Rukh Khan has always been the charmer, in fact, Bajpayee even detailed how SRK would arrive in his red Maruti van, and how popular the now, King of Bollywood used to be with the girls.

Back on the work front, Manoj Bajpayee is currently filming for Despatch and Gulmohar.

Vijay Deverakonda will be making his much talked about Bollywood debut with Liger, to be directed by famous South filmmaker Puri Jagannadh. The film, which also features Ananya Panday, is expected to feature in a power-packed action role but a recent poster of the Arjun Reddy actor has left his audience shocked.

In this photo, that reads ‘Saala Crossbreed’, we can see Vijay Deverakonda baring it all out, as he poses with no clothes. A bouquet of roses is tactically placed that covers his private parts but the naked photo has definitely captivated his audience. Directed by Puri Jagannadh, the film also stars famous boxer Mike Tyson in a pivotal role. As per earlier reports, Liger will feature the beastly side of Vijay Deverakonda whereas his chemistry with Ananya Panday is yet another intriguing element in the film. It is slated to release on August 25, 2022. If certain reports are to be believed, the actor will be kicking off the promotions very soon.

Mahhi Vij approaches Mumbai Police after her cook threatens to kill her family

Television actress Mahhi Vij, who is married to co-actor-host Jay Bhanushali, recently took to Twitter to share that she and her family were harassed by her cook. She even revealed in those deleted tweets that she has approached the Mumbai Police to request them for help after her cook hurled abuses and threated to stab her with a knife. In a report with ETimes, the actress spoke about the issue that left her and her family baffled.

In her ETimes interview, she revealed that the temporary cook, they had hired through a friend’s reference, was caught stealing some items by their nanny. She went on to add, “It had just been three days and we were alerted that he’s stealing. I had waited to inform Jay. When Jay came, he wanted to settle the bill but the cook demanded to be paid for the entire month. When Jay tried to reason out, he said ‘200 biharis laake khada kar dunga’. He got drunk and started hurling abuses at us. We went to the cops. I don’t care if anything happens to me, but I was scared for my daughter.”

She also added that she is extremely afraid that if he comes out in bail, he will try to harm her and her daughter. “If something happens to me, people will protest later. What’s the point then? I am scared for my family’s safety. I heard he will be out on bail. What if he actually gets men after coming out of the jail and targets us?” she maintained.

Mahhi Vij also maintained that when they hired the cook, despite asking for more salary, he eventually agreed to the payment as per their budget. He also asserted them that he had a family and kids. She expressed in disappointment that she never knew he would turn out to be like this.

EXCLUSIVE: Mukesh Bhatt reveals why he was JUSTIFIED in paying just Rs. 7 lakhs to Anurag Basu for collectively directing Saaya and Murder

Anurag Basu today is known as one of the finest directors of Bollywood. After having directed TV shows in the late 90s and early 2000s, the filmmaker had got a break in films thanks to Mukesh Bhatt. For his banner Vishesh Films, Anurag Basu made 4 films – Saaya (2003), Murder (2004), Tumsa Nahin Dekha (2004) and Gangster (2006). Since Gangster, he has been a favourite of the critics and classes, who further gave him accolades for his work in Life In A Metro (2007), Barfi (2012) and Ludo (2020).

In an interview with Mid-Day in December 2020, the filmmaker revealed that he was offered just Rs. 7 lakhs to direct both Saaya and Murder. In short, he received just Rs. 3.5 lakhs for each film! Moreover, Anurag Basu had told Mukesh Bhatt that he’ll charge Rs. 7 lakh for one film. The producer paid him that amount, but for two films. Interestingly, Anurag didn’t mind and stated, “It was my stepping stone, I was just an outsider, getting to learn a lot; I would have done it for free.”

Mukesh Bhatt exclusively spoke to Bollywood Hungama recently, on the occasion of his 69th birthday. When asked to comment on this episode, Mukesh Bhatt said, “I don’t remember the exact figure (that was paid to Anurag Basu). But that’s what the prices were at that point, right? Also, he was a new director whom I was giving a break. Moreover, John Abraham was also a newcomer. We had just given him a break in Jism (2003) and Saaya was his immediate next. So, for a film comprising a newcomer and a new director, what recovery can you expect?”

Mukesh Bhatt continued, “See, it’s never the producer who pays the wages. He only handles the money. It’s the project that pays the wages to everybody in the film – the actor, the director and even the producer. The producer is doing a job of handling the money.”

“We’ve actually shown a part of Nambi Narayanan’s torture and interrogation”, says R. Madhavan about Rocketry

R Madhavan has done it! His Nambi Narayanan bio-pic is a work of beauty, and a joy forever. Without pulling any punches, Madhavan socks us in our complacent faces, as the horrific story of a dedicated passionate scientist’s torture and persecution comes to life. Then there is of course Shah Rukh Khan.

How did you get Shah Rukh Khan to do a film after three years?
And that too for a guest appearance. It wasn’t difficult at all. Shah Rukh is a gem of a guy. When he heard about who and what the film was about, he agreed to come on board immediately. Shah Rukh and I go back a long way, we come from similar non-film backgrounds. He also started on television like me. 

Then you both became superstars?
I don’t know about me. But Shah Rukh is definitely a superstar. He plays a very important part in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. He conducts the interview with Nambi Sir where all the truth about his life is revealed. Suriya plays Shah Rukh’s role in the Tamil version of the film. 

Did such an interview actually happen in Nambi Narayanan’s life?
Of course! It was conducted on a Kerala television channel by a local journalist. This interview was a turning point in Nambi Sir’s fight for justice. We’ve actually shown a very small part of his torture and interrogation. In reality this exceptionally brave and honest man struggled for eight years to get justice. If we showed everything that he went through the film would have become too dark and morbid. We wanted to make sure that Nambi Sir’s story reached the remotest corners of the world. I was very apprehensive about one thing. 

What is that?
That people will see me, Madhavan on screen. I wanted my presence to be totally obliterated so that people see only Nambi Sir on screen. This is isn’t a film about me, Madhavan. It is about this hero of the nation who faced humiliation and damnation. Gaddar, desh drohi (traitor) ….all these things are so easy to label someone with. When you make irresponsible accusations you destroy the entire family. This is what we wanted to show. 

And you have shown it with absolute conviction and sensitivity?
I had to! I had no choice. When I took on the responsibility of bringing Nambi Sir’s story to the screen I wasn’t sure what I was getting into. All I knew was, it is a responsibility I had taken on and I had to make sure that full justice was done to the story of a man who struggled for eight years to get justice. 

Which is the best compliment you have received so far for Rocketry?
My son Vedaant is not very demonstrative about his feelings. When he saw the film he said, ‘Dad, can I get my friends to see it?’ He wants kids of his generation to know about Nambi Sir. To me that is the film’s biggest achievement. 

How close has this film brought you to Nambi Narayanan?
Very close. He gets along well with my parents. We are family friends. But it’s not as if we are in each other’s homes all the time or constantly speaking to one another on the phone. He knows I am there for him any time he needs me. That won’t change even after the film has come and gone. 

What do you feel about the massive flow of bio-pics in the movie theatres?
We should celebrate lives that are worth celebrating. There are so many real heroes in our country, men and women who have given their lives to the service of the nation. I chose to tell Nambi Nambiar’s story because it seemed the right thing to do. There are so many other heroes in our country whose stories are waiting to be told. 

Is it true that you have decided to not direct any more films after Rocketry?
I had to direct this project. I had no other option. It was a job, a responsibility thrust on me by destiny. To my relief I was able to put on screen what I wanted to. However my job profile would describe me as an actor, not a director. 

What is your greatest takeaway from the experience of directing Rocketry?
That I was able to spend time with Nambi Narayanan Sir. If he had not agreed to support this project, I don't think I'd have made the film. I have learnt so much from him about rocket science and about life. I can very confidently tell you that life is more complicated than rocket science.
