#2020Recap: 5 Scene stealers of 2020
You were probably looking at the central performer when these scene-stealers came along crept up on the plot and swept away the show right from under the main performer’s nose. Take a look.
1. Sharad Kelkar in Tanhaji: Of course Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan were resoundingly good in the lead. But the real star of this pseudo-historical, the biggest money-spinner of 2020, was Sharad Kelkar. As Chhatrpati Shivaji Maharaj, Sharad with that baritone voice and majestic walk, slayed it. Someone should make a whole film with Sharad as the central character of Shivaji Maharaj.
2. Maanvi Gagroo in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan: In a film that made a mockery of the gay community, Manvi Gagroo as a crazy bride on the run hit the ball out of the park. Unlike other comic acts by female actors this one was not about being overweight or oversexed. Manvi played this crazy woman named Goggle Tripathi with a joy and stride in her comic timing that were definitely refreshing.
3. Akansha Ranjan Kapoor in Guilty: It’s not easy to play a character who is not afraid to address her sexuality and is unwilling to play the victim card after being sexually violated. Akansha brought in all the complexities of the role, the hysteria, helplessness and the hope for justice, creating a part that is at once kinetic and out of control. This was a tough one for a debutante. She sailed through it and stole the show right from under the leading lady Kiara Advani’s aquiline nose.
4. Inaayat Verma in Ludo: With a cast of stalwarts, ranging from the popular Rajkummar Rao and Pankat Tripathi to the lesser-known Shalini Vatsa and Ishtiyak Khan, it was little 8-year old Inaayat Verma as a pint-sized firebrand who plans her own kidnapping, show stole the show. Her confident dialogue delivery and her supreme effortlessness made Inaayat a natural-born scene stealer. Abhishek Bachchan says he has never been face to face with a more challenging co-star. With due apologies to father Amitabh and wife Aishwarya.
5. Sikander Kher in Aarya: No words, just a glance is enough to convey this quietly brilliant actor’s characters’ inner world. Sikander in Aarya was the bandh mutthi. The focus throughout was on Sushmita Sen and she was no doubt a powerhouse. But every time Sikander stood silently in the shadows I felt the danger and the doom lurking beneath the polished surface. Will someone please write a central role in a webseries for Sikander?

#2020Recap: 8 Best theme songs of web series in 2020
The web space exploded big time in 2020. While the story, theme, execution and performances played a part, another important factor also contributed to the popularity of a show. And that’s the theme song, played during the opening credits. Almost all shows had the said track but only some of them made us listen to the whole tune and not click on ‘Skip intro’ button. In this special feature, Bollywood Hungama brings to you a list of our favourite web series theme songs of the year.
1. Scam 1992 (Composed by Achint)
This list will be incomplete if this legendary track is not included in the list, that too at the very beginning! Composed by Achint, this track gave an adrenaline rush each and every time one listens to it. We are not surprised that not just the content of the series, but even the theme song has gone viral and has record views on YouTube.
2. Bandish Bandits (composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy)
Most theme songs are either quirky or have the thrill feel. In this regard, Bandish Bandits stands out. The theme song beautifully captures the classical folk and Rajasthani culture element. Also, the visuals add to its charm. The manner in which Rajasthan’s desert and forts are presented and also the manner in which the faces of Ritwik Bhowmik, Shreya Chaudhary, Naseeruddin Shah and Atul Kulkarni are carefully and cleverly hidden make for a splendid watch.
3. A Suitable Boy (composed by Alex Heffes with Anoushka Shankar)
Just like Bandish Bandits, the theme of A Suitable Boy has the ethnic touch. But it slightly differed for though it has a strong Indian sound; it also has the global sensibility. The use of sitar enhances the charm and appeal and also goes well with the 1950s era shown in the series.
4. Panchayat (composed by Anurag Saikia)
This was a simple, light-hearted rustic drama and the theme song captured this essence very well. Another reason why the theme song works is because of the visuals and the way the names of the cast and crew appear in Hindi. Again, it goes very well with the flavour of the series.
5. Jamtara (composed by Sidhant Mathur)
Sidhant Mathur’s piece commences on a thrilling note and we love how the tension levels in the music goes on another level towards the end.
6. Mirzapur 2 (composed by John Stewart Eduri)
The foot-tapping theme has a separate fan base for many and an instant recall value for most, as it was also used in part 1. The hammer and metal sounds stand out and also the use of Brazilian and Afro themes set in a fully UP setting is a great idea that has paid dividends for the makers and the composer.
7. Breathe: Into The Shadows (composed by Alokananda Dasgupta; recreated for Season 2 by Karan Kulkarni)
The theme is more or less similar to the one in Season 1 though the visuals and graphics this time have been changed. Nevertheless, the theme has a haunting and eerie feel that sets the mood for the series.
8. Four More Shots Please - Season 2 (composed by Mikey McCleary)
In the sequel, not just the song but even the visuals are the same as in Season 1. But we are not complaining as we love the funky and catchy opening credit theme. We hope it’s retained in season 3 as well!

5 Rajesh Khanna films you've probably missed
Rajesh Khanna’s rich repertoire of melody-drenched performances in Aradhana, Amar Prem, Kati Patang, Dushman, Sachcha Jhutha, Roti, Premnagar, and Aap Ki Kasam, etc. have been rightly celebrated. But as a diehard Khanna fan I can tell you Khanna did better than what is considered his best. Here are the performances of India’s greatest superstar ever that you’ve probably missed.
1. Baharon Ke Sapne (1967): This came before superstardom hit RK’s career in a big way. The future superstar played a jobless youth looking for an aim in his life who becomes a union leader. The anger and hunger in RK’s eyes were so palpable many felt he was going to be the Angry Young Man of Indian cinema. But Khanna had other plans. He took the romantic road. Baharon Ke Sapne featured a Mohammed Rafi memorabilia Zamane ne mare jawan kaise kaise zameen kha jayi aasman kaise kaise written by Kaifi Azmi. Director Nasir Hussain never worked with Khanna after this.
2. Aavishkar (1974): Rajesh Khanna was wrongly accused of never taking career risks. At the peak of his career he did this experimental film about a marriage gone horribly to the dogs. Stripped off all his mannerisms RK was the portrait of an agitated marital deadlock livid with an imploding rage at his screen -wife Sharmila Tagore. Of all the films that RK did with Madame Tagore this was the least stylized. Basu Bhattacharya who worked with Sanjeev Kumar in his best films (Anubhav, Grihapravesh) confessed it wasn’t easy directing RK. The best things in life are never easy to get. Highpoint in the film is RK emoting to Manna Dey’s Hansne ki chaah ne kitna mujhe rulaya hai.
3. Palkon Ki Chaon Mein (1977): Directed by the late Meraj, Assistant to the great Gulzar, this quaint rural romance featured RK as a postman who refuses to read out the bad news in a letter informing Hema Malini of her lover’s death. Restrained and remarkably effective the film showed what a great actor Khanna was. If you can get your hands on this one, you will know why there has never been a bigger star than Khanna. Watch him emote to the theme song ‘Dakiya Dak Laya’.
4. Janta Hawaldar (1979): By the time this film came along Rajesh Khanna had almost lost his superstardom completely. Though this film directed by the comic virtuoso Mehmood was a flop, it features RK in a delightfully artless avatar as a simpleton havildar (junior –level cop) whom everyone takes advantage of. Mehmood was supposed to play the part. He decided to direct and let Khanna take over the screen. RK is moving and sincere. He will make you cry when he lip-syncs to ‘Humse Kya Bhool Hui Jo Yeh Sazaa Humka Mili’. That’s we felt watching Khanna in some of his later works like Awaaz, Bandish, Fiffty Fiffty and Dharam Kanta.
5. Amar Deep (1979): The last really great performance by the Superstar, inspired by Raj Kumar in the 1960s’ drama Mere Huzoor, Khanna played an arrogant debauched tycoon who goes through a complete character reform after a life-changing experience. Draped in that trademark shawl over a spotless kurta-pyjama, RK’s histrionics ripped the screen apart. There will be another actor like him.
