While he is riding high on the success of his last hit Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, we at Bollywood Hungama exclusively caught up with Anees Bazmee about the success as well as to talk about his forthcoming projects. The filmmaker spoke in length on the development of No Entry sequel which has been in news for quite some time now. Not too long ago, we had reported that Salman Khan is planning to start with the film with Anil Kapoor and Fardeen Khan by the end of this year. Remembering about how he had narrated the script to a group of 25 people at Boney Kapoor’s house, Anees Bazmee discussed their reactions after listening to the film.
In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Anees Bazmee discussed about No Entry sequel saying, “Boney saab ne ek baar kahan tha, ghar aajao ek baar Sriji (Sridevi ji) ko bhi kahaani sunado, toh maine kahan teek hai. Jab ghar pahunch, toh 20-25, 50 log baite hue hain. Maine pucha, ‘yeh kya hai’ toh unhone kahan sab apne hi log hai, koi distributor hai, koi financer hai, sab filmy log hai.” (Transl: Once when I met Boney Sir, he asked me to come home to narrate the script to Sridevi ji. When I reached his place, I was standing there in front of a group of 20 to 25, possibly 50 people. I was quite shocked but Boney Sir assured me that they are all filmy people, some are distributors, financers etc.)
While the filmmaker was shocked to see so many, he explained why it was difficult for him to narrate the script to so many. He added, “Narration ka kya hai na, aap itne logon se saath kar nahi sakte, eye contact nahi ho paata. Aur meri aadat hai ki jab main narrate kar raha hoon, toh main aapke aankhon mein dekh kar yeh samajhne ki koshish karta hoon ki appko achha lag raha hai, nahi lag rah hai, ab yeh portion jaldi suna doon, yeh portion main time lagaun, toh 25 logon mein main yahi nahi kar sakta.” (Transl: The reason why the narration can be given to so many people is because it requires eye contact. And I have this habit that when I narrate something I need to retain that eye contact with that person so that I can understand whether they are liking the script, not liking it, whether I should fast forward what I am saying or slow down and explain. But in case of 25 people that is an impossible task.”)
He elaborated, “Phir bhi maine narration kiya aur kareeb 11 baje khatam hua aur uske baad party ka silsila shuru hua. Hum sab Boney saab ke bungalow mein subah ke 5-6 baje tak the. Aur sab bade khush the aur sabne bola yaar kamaal ka script hai. Ek cheez jo kisine bahut achha kia ki woh sab record kar liya. Toh ab main woh recording toh samaj aa jaata hai ki iske baad laughter hai. Waise toh andaza lag jaata hai, par mujhe exact pata lagta hai, kya kam hai, kya zyaada, kya achha hai.” (Transl: Yet I continued the narration and finished around 11 in the night. After that, a small get-together party started and it continued till 5 to 6 in the morning. One good thing was, someone in the gathering happened to record the narration that night. So that was really helpful since it helped me understand what was funny, what instigated the laughter. Although we always have an idea, this helped me understand the exact moment that worked, what was required, what was good etc.)
