The highlight of Day 2 of D23 Expo was the Studio Showcase by Lucasfilm, Marvel Studios and 20th Century Studios. The closing announcement of this panel was of James Cameron’s much-awaited Avatar: The Way of Water
The cast members were on stage and Cameron joined via video conference, he surprised the audiences by announcing that the entire D23 floor will be a 3D hall as he was screening glimpses of his film. Within minutes every member of the audience was given 3D glasses and the auditorium was divided into two parts with a black curtain that extended right across the center.
Cameron showed the D23 audience 6 extended scenes from the film which mesmerized the audience as this was the first time they got a deep dive into the world of Avatar: The Way of Water. The scenes were not connected to one another so that the audiences get to see different parts of the film and not one long chunk of it.
The scenes showed young Na’vi jumping into deep water and swimming alongside fascinating marine life. There was also a scene where Na’vi plays a weaver. This was followed by an action scene where children from the earlier two scenes were captured and Sully and Neytiri attack them and try to save them.
Avatar: The Way of Water comes 13 years after the Avatar, it releases in cinemas on December 16, 2022.
