EXCLUSIVE: Shah Rukh Khan Warriors FAN Club founder on putting up 10,000 to 15,000 posters of Pathaan across India and how business owners are persuaded for it: “90% of the time, these people turn out to be SRK fans. Aur woh dil se kehte hai, ‘Shah Rukh hai toh aap poster lagaiye’”

A few days ago, we reported on how the fan club, SRK Universe, is planning an extravagant celebration for the release of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan. Now, Bollywood Hungama brings to you a report on how Shah Rukh Khan Warriors FAN Club, another huge fan club of the superstar, are celebrating the release of the actor’s first film in more than four years.

EXCLUSIVE Shah Rukh Khan Warriors FAN Club founder on putting up 10,000 to 15,000 posters of Pathaan across India and how business owners are persuaded for it “90% of the time, these people turn out to be SRK fans. Aur woh dil se kehte hai, ‘Shah Rukh hai toh aap poster lagaiye’”

Javed Shaikh, the founder of Shah Rukh Khan Warriors FAN Club, exclusively told Bollywood Hungama, “Like all other fan clubs, we are also going to organize first day first show fan screenings. And since Shah Rukh Khan sir’s birthday in 2022, we have put up 10,000 to 15,000 posters. The number is increasing with each passing day as we are still putting up posters.” This campaign has taken place in 35 cities, some of which are Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara, Delhi, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Aurangabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru etc.

Javed Shaikh said, “In each of these 35 cities, we have put up 400 to 500 posters. It’s rare that such kind of ground-level promotion has been conducted for a film where a fan club has splashed posters across cities.” He continued, “We selected these cities based on their potential at the box office. We didn’t opt for certain centres where collections are negligible or which don't have a theatre.”

Explaining how they managed to get their work done, Javed revealed, “We have an admin appointed in each of these cities. And each admin has a core team of 20-25 people. All this work can be done only by those who unconditionally love sir. Hence, we chose to do it ourselves and didn’t outsource to any agency.”

He added, “Our posters are of A3 size. It’s put up in salons, restaurants, cafes, coaching classes etc.; in short, in places which are frequented by the youth.”

How do they convince owners of these establishments for their poster drive? Javed replied, “We take permission from them. We tell the 25 people in the core team to go and meet the restaurant owner, salon owner, chaiwallah etc. that they are familiar with. They just talk to them for 2 minutes and politely request them to put up the poster. 90% of the time, these people turn out to be Shah Rukh Khan fans. Aur woh dil se kehte hai, ‘Shah Rukh Khan hai toh aap poster lagaiye’! Very rarely do people decline and we are fine with that.”

He also said, “During the festive season, we went to places where people are celebrating festivals and stood there with Pathaan’s banners and standees. We also did dance performances at sightseeing spots like Pune’s forts, Mumbai’s Marine Drive etc.”

Javed Shaikh then shared an update on an upcoming promotional drive for Pathaan by their fan club, “Seeing posters of upcoming films on social media is very common. But in your city, if you see posters and some people promoting a film through the use of loudspeakers in the 80s or 90s style, the impact it’ll have on moviegoers will be manifold. Log bolenge, ‘yeh toh unique marketing hai’! And this is what we are going to do, on Saturday, January 21. It’ll happen in all 35 cities. And we are going to take prior permission from the authorities.”

As for post-release plans, he said, “We are going to have charity shows. This is for those who are not able to go to the cinemas, like those in old-aged homes. No one takes them to the theatres. For such people, Pathaan charity drive will be carried out on Friday, January 27 and Monday, January 30. This will be organized in 35-40 cities where we have branches. Fans can contribute to such shows by sponsoring a ticket(s).”

Aged 30, Javed Shaikh juggles his day job and fan club-related activities smoothly. He stated, “I work in a private insurance company. After my working hours, I get busy with fan club work.” He’s based in Aurangabad.

Shah Rukh Khan is aware of the work of the Shah Rukh Khan Warriors FAN Club and how they are going to insane lengths for the sake of their favourite superstar. Javed signed off by narrating, “We started Pathaan’s promotion from sir’s birthday on November 2. We had inflated a huge helium balloon outside his house, Mannat. It cost us Rs. 1 lakh. It was a sight to behold. Sir was quite touched by our gesture.”

Meanwhile, another fan club, SRKCFC (SRK Chennai Fan Club) have arranged for the first day first show of Pathaan in more than 200 cities in India. Sudhir Kothari, the founder of this club, also said that they’ll also organize shows not just on release day but also 2-3 days after. They have also placed 30 feet banners and the image of it is being widely spread. The fans of this club are all set to garland Shah Rukh Khan on the poster and bathe the poster with milk after breaking the coconut. Humanitarian activities like blood donation camps, food donation at kids' orphanages, bedsheet distribution to street dwellers etc will also be arranged.

Lastly, SRK Universe members had a breakthrough when they managed to organize a fan screening at 9:00 am on January 25, the day Pathaan releases, at Mumbai’s Gaiety-Galaxy. This is probably the first time that a show will be held so early in the morning at the iconic cinema complex.
