After the pandemic, the theatrical collections got hit initially. This prompted the filmmakers to reduce the window between theatrical release and OTT premiere from 8 weeks to 4 weeks. Once the cinema business gradually came back on track, the industry went back to following the old rule from August 1, 2022. Ever since, all the films which have been released in cinemas have arrived on streaming giants only after completion of 8 weeks. However, two major films of last year – Vikram Vedha and Bhediya – have still not arrived on any OTT platform, despite the former releasing in theatres 19 weeks ago and the latter 11 weeks ago. A lot of moviegoers are wondering about the reason behind it and can be seen discussing it on social media. Bollywood Hungama has found out the reason behind the delayed digital premieres of these two movies. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Both Vikram Vedha and Bhediya will be premiered on the new super-app of Jio. This super-app is going to be launched soon and is sure to become a talking point. Along with the premieres of Vikram Vedha and Bhediya, it’s the app where IPL (Indian Premier League) 2023 will also be aired.” Another source said, “The idea is to premiere not just Vikram Vedha and Bhediya but also several other films. As per the plan, every week, there’ll be a film premiere. While some of these are theatrical releases, a few of them will get a direct OTT release. The list of all these films will be hopefully unveiled at the time of the launch of the super-app.” Meanwhile, there has been a discussion on social media that this new app will be called JioVoot but there has been no confirmation on the same from our sources. Vikram Vedha, which was released on September 30, 2022, starred Hrithik Roshan, Saif Ali Khan and Radhika Apte. It is directed by Pushkar-Gayatri, who also directed the 2017 original Tamil film of the same name, co-starring R Madhavan and Vijay Sethupathi. Bhediya, on the other hand, starred Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon. Directed by Amar Kaushik of Stree (2018) and Bala (2019) fame, it was released in cinemas on November 25, 2022.
